The use of chlorinated organic solvents, tetrachlorethylene mainly to clean skins, leather and textiles. Other commonly used solvents are trichlorethylene, 1,1,1-trichloroethane and methylene chloride (EMEP / CORINAIR, 1996) chloride. The types of equipment used are two open circuit where emissions by evaporation of solvent in the final drying step clothing (deodorization) are discharged directly into the atmosphere, and closed circuit equipped with cooled condensers and unvented.

Example of chlorinated solvents:

Methylene chloride: pharmaceuticals, chemical processing, aerosol, food extraction, urethane foam blowing and surface treatment including etching.

• Perchloroethylene: dry cleaning and metal cleaning.
• Trichloroethylene: metal cleaning and special adhesives.
