Alifatics
Due to their reactivity are used primarily as solvents
Applications alkanes may be determined according to the number of carbon atoms in the molecule. The first four alkanes are mainly used as heating fuel in stoves for cooking food and some countries are used in power generation.
Higher molecular weight alkanes, nonane to hexadecane, diesel part, used as fuel. Alkanes from heptadecane to tricontano part of lubricating oils, waxes and paraffin which is in candles.
Heavier alkanes part of the asphalt on roads and roofing products. Alkanes are also used as raw material for the production of polymers.
