Glycolethers are a group of alkyl ethers based solvents ethylene glycol used in paints. These solvents tend to have higher boiling. These, together with the solvent favorable properties of lower molecular weight alcohols and ethers. Glycolethers are also sometimes called by the trade name cellosolve with the original is ethyl cellosolve (glycol monoethyl ether, ethylene).

The glycol ether may also be derived from diethylene glycol (carbitol).
